I have participated in the arts since I was 17 - as a musician (for the past 20 years I've plated bluegrass music with Prozac Mtn. Boys), theatre artist (I retied in 2010 after a 40 year career in the theatre) and a visual artist. I received my initial training from an abstract painter focusing on color, line, mass, and composition. When I began painting in earnest in 2005 I used my initial training to develop my own approach to abstraction using large blocks of color filled with small details. As I matured as an artist I gravitated toward a medium far removed from abstract painting - block printing. I use linoleum blocks and a vintage hand-crank press to create prints almost exclusively in black and white. My current focus is on faces of people and animals as well as on trees. I hope you enjoy the work I've created for this exhibit. To see more go to my website at http://wwww.samisharts.com. My studio, the Samish River Art Studio, is located on Highway 9 north of Sedro-Woolley. Stop by sometime.
